This June the Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival is coming to Old Sarum, thanks to a project funded by Natural England and the BIG Lottery – Nature Of Art In Wessex. As always the Festival brings a great range of free outdoor events for everyone to be able to enjoy, including a Meadows and Down Trail on Friday 1 June, 3pm – 7pm at Old Sarum, starting at the Old Sarum Primary School.
Following the success of last year’s Nature of Art Activity Day, this will be a memorable outdoor event for the whole family and a great chance to explore art and nature on your doorstep. River Bourne Community Farm will be leading a taste trail with delicious foods from the farm and running a temporary shop at Old Sarum selling eggs, honey, chutney and more.
Whilst exploring the Old Sarum Trail, look out for art in nature creations by local artist Charlotte Moreton, community groups and volunteers. This will include trees beautifully decorated with colourful wishing flags, recently created by groups from MotivArt, Wiltshire Day Opportunities and St Andrew’s Primary School, Laverstock. Charlotte Moreton has also carved a stunning community bench designed by local residents, which will be unveiled at Old Sarum Primary School. The day offers family and friends a chance to enjoy the natural space, see art created by the community and learn more about the local community farm.
The free trail is also part of the River Bourne Community Farm Meadows & Down Trails Project.
Nature Of Art In Wessex is an innovative three year project using art to help more people explore the nature on their doorstep. Funding to work with 6 communities until 2012 it has been awarded by Natural England as part of its Access to Nature programme and funded from the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces programme.
This event has been made possible because of support from Natural England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Wiltshire Council and South West Trains.
