Old Sarum was home to a special Archaeology Weekend – part of the 22nd Festival of British Archaeology.
It was the perfect opportunity to get hands-on with artefacts, see some of Old Sarum’s treasures and even get your own artefacts examined. For children there was also the chance to excavate a skeleton buried in a sandpit.
There was a special treat for visitors on Sunday when Time Team’s Phil Harding demonstrated his flint knapping skills.
Old Sarum, an English Heritage property, stands near Salisbury at the edge of Wiltshire’s chalk plains and the remains of the iron age fort made for an idyllic setting to rediscover relics of past times.
Dan Rendell, Historic Property Steward at Old Sarum said: “We hope to inspire visitors to dig a little deeper, question the origins of remains and develop a passion for archaeology.”
