Salisbury Cathedral Choir has released its latest CD Great Hymns from Salisbury on the Priory label. Recorded in the cathedral in January, it’s a wonderful selection of hymns which have, through the centuries, touched people’s hearts.
David Halls, Director of Music, said “This is a selection of some of the finest hymns ever written and the cathedral choir had a lot of enjoyment recording them. Most of the hymns are unashamedly popular ones and I must confess I indulged myself by choosing two of my childhood favourites, ‘When a knight won his spurs’ and ‘At the name of Jesus’, the latter to the catchy, energetic tune ‘Camberwell’ by Michael Brierley.”
The choir is accompanied by John Challenger, Assistant Director of Music, on the cathedral’s famous Father Willis organ.
Great Hymns from Salisbury (PRCD 1098) is available from Salisbury Cathedral shop, price £13.50, and all good record shops.
