Salisbury Racing Driver Dan Wells completed his debut at the Macau Grand Prix in style on 10th November, earning second position at the legendary 6.120 kilometre circuit in what was a close encounter to the chequered flag.
The 2012 Formula Pilota China Series Vice Champion took to the treacherous street circuit in wet conditions which culminated in a three-lap safety car period, denying Wells the opportunity to attack pole-sitter Akash Nandy in a traditional standing start.
As the safety car retreated to the pit lane, Wells immediately pressured KCMG team mate Nandy as the pack of aspiring Formula One drivers charged down to Mandarin for the first time.
Unable to find a way past the Malaysian after numerous attempts, Wells kept hot-on-the-heels of his counterpart in drying conditions, reducing the initial three second deficit to just one as the race entered its final conclusion.
The KEYPAD Magazine-backed racing driver soon made a last-gasp effort to secure victory as the cars approached the back markers with the race drawing to a close, however circumstances forced Wells to settle for second position at the chequered flag of the non-points scoring round.
“I’m absolutely delighted with everything that we have achieved this weekend,” said Wells. “Macau is an incredible circuit to drive and I really enjoyed myself out there.”
“Obviously I wanted the top step on the rostrum; not least to reward my investors, supporters and sponsors, but I cannot be disappointed. I have had a forced absence from racing for a year due to lack of budget and it’s been 18-months since experiencing wet tyres, let alone the new ones introduced since I last raced in 2012, so I have to acknowledge that and not be too hard on myself.”
Dan Wells and his management team will now focus on piecing together a full campaign in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship with KCMG next season.
