A Trowbridge couple have made history by being the first to be married in the brand new wedding venue at County Hall.
Berni Crowley and Jonathon Perry tied the knot in the new ceremonial room in the refurbished County Hall building in Trowbridge on Saturday, February 8 2014.
The couple are the first of almost 100 bookings the council has already received to use the register offices up to October this year.
The leader of Wiltshire Council, Jane Scott, congratulated the couple.
She said: “This was a very special day for Berni and Jonathon and the icing on the cake is that they’re the first couple to use this lovely new venue. Many congratulations to the happy couple and we wish them a wonderful future together.”
Speaking before the big day Berni said: “We’re really looking forward to having our wedding in this beautiful building. It’s a lovely place for us to exchange our vows.”
The new offices were recently visited by Gwyn Hughes, head of the Delivery Partnership Unit at the General Register Office.
He said: “We were immensely impressed with all we saw on our visit – both in respect to the improvements being made to the delivery of the registration service, and more generally Wiltshire Council’s vision and customer focus. I wish you and the team well in taking the service forward.”
The suite of rooms replace the former Register Office across the road from County Hall at The Chestnuts which on average held 145 weddings a year. The move to County Hall is part of the council’s transformation programme to reduce the number of buildings the council owns and leases from more than 95 offices to three hubs including County Hall. The programme will save £110m in capital over 25 years and £5m in revenue per annum, creating a 40 percent reduction in carbon emissions and promoting new flexible ways of working.
