Swindon Dance and BIOS – Settings for Life will receive a High Sheriff Award on March 6th, to be presented by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Peter Addington. The award presentation will take place at Swindon Dance, starting at 5:15pm.
This award recognises not-for-profit groups who make a positive impact on the town and the needs of its community.
Both organisations work with young people, building positive relationships and changing lives.
Swindon Dance does this through dance, by providing mentoring, teaching, support and training in dance, to inspire and encourage the young people, regardless of their background. BIOS use their customised youth-group van to also support and mentor young people in Swindon. By enabling young people to make positive decisions, both organisations are changing lives with the service they provide in the town, and increasing aspiration amongst Swindon’s youth.
Marie McCluskey, Artistic Director at Swindon Dance, said “We are delighted to be chosen as a recipient of this award, because it recognises the passion and dedication shown by our inspirational teachers, dance artists and team. Without them, our young people wouldn’t be developing as artists, thriving as individuals, or working towards a professional career in dance.”
Chris Priddy, Director of BIOS and Swindon’s Youth for Christ (SYFC), said “We are fantastically excited about receiving this prestigious award from the High Sheriff of Wiltshire. The team have worked incredibly hard in our first year and this award is huge recognition for that effort.”
