The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Salisbury on Friday 22 June to support the recovery programme underway in the city following the nerve agent attack earlier in the year.
Their Royal Highnesses will meet local businesses and people in the city centre before joining a reception in the Guildhall to meet those who are playing an active role in helping the city to recover following the incident on the 4th March. There will be around one hundred attendees at the reception including civic dignitaries, emergency services, local and national agencies, business, marketing and events and arts and culture representatives.
Local residents and visitors are invited to see their Royal Highnesses at Salisbury’s Market Place at approximately 10:30 am, when they will be meeting local people ahead of arriving at the Guildhall.
This Royal visit marks a significant and positive step in Salisbury’s recovery programme, as the city returns to normal. Major events have helped the city to attract visitors and shoppers. The Royal wedding party in the Cathedral Close, and the recently held OVO Energy Cycle Race, attracted thousands of people helping to boost the local economy and showcase the city nationally and internationally through extensive media coverage.
Alistair Cunningham, chair of the recovery coordinating group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to Salisbury in support of its recovery and to help boost visitors to the centre. Whilst the recovery work is well underway, there is still a lot to be done and this visit is a real boost for the city.
Everyone here is so pleased that their Royal Highnesses have decided to visit and I am sure that local residents and visitors will join us to welcome them to the city centre and to celebrate this special Royal visit.”
