New Year’s Honours

Amazing people connected to Wiltshire have received New Year’s honours. Amongst them is PC Laurence Brown, a police officer who was instrumental in organising repatriations through Royal Wootton Bassett.  He has been awarded the MBE.

Wendy Hall of Wanborough was also made an MBE for her services to the voluntary sector in Wiltshire as former chief executive of the MediationPlus service and as vice chairman of GreenSquare Group.

Peter Sweet from Shrewton has been given an MBE for his community work. In 1940 his father has was also a recipient of the honour.

Andy Payne of Mastertronic which raises funds for the Games Aid charity also received an MBE for services to the UK games industry.

Within the MoD there were MBE’s for Kevin Capon of Wilton, Garry Cunningham of Chippenham, Susan Ross of Devizes and Jacqueline Carrier of Bradford on Avon.

Prof Joyce Goodman of Warminster has been honoured for her services to education. She is professor and dean at the University of Winchester.

Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire John Bush OBE was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. He retires later this year.

A CBE was awarded to Dr Andrew Oliver Tyler, who was in charge of Defence Equipment and Support at the Ministry of Defence.

An OBE was given to Dr Andrew Baxter of Salisbury, who works for the Ministry of Defence and to John Adams of Westbury for services to social care. John is general secretary of the Voluntary Organisations Disability Group.
